Risky Business
There are certain acts in dance music who I consider untouchable... Dance music royalty. Remixing their tracks is always going to be risky. Sure you get lots of quick attention due to the popularity of the artists - but you also need to back it up with some quality work. Step up Hana Yori Kichou Na.
Based out of Luxembourg, Hana Yori Kichou Na recently captured our attention with an excellent release on Shiny Disco Club - but today I want to focus on his remixing skills. Le Knight Club (Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Eric Chedeville) released Palm Beat back in 2002 and even though it still sounds fresh, HYKN has given it a beautiful refresh for the dancefloor.
Le Knight Club - Palm Beat (Hana Yori Kichou Na Remix) by Hana Yori Kichou Na
Next on the Dance music royalty list: Alan Braxe. Braxe's debut single "Vertigo" dropped way back in 1997, and HYKN's 'Virgo Est De Retour' remix breathes some new life into this beast:
Vertigo (Hana Yori Kichou Na 'Virgo Est De Retour' Remix) by Hana Yori Kichou Na
Now we don't want to upset those robots... So lets move onto a remix of a Thomas Bangalter classic too: Colossus. From the 1998 release "Trax On Da Rocks Vol.2", NYKN kept this one simple... Yet still very effective:
Thomas Bangalter - Colossus (Hana Yori Kichou Na Remix) by Hana Yori Kichou Na
Last but not least - NYKN has remixed an absolute classic Daft Punk track: Musique. We all know and love this Thomas Bangalter/Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo tune - And NYKN has again turned in a fantastic take on it, focusing on the vocal loop:
Daft Punk - Musique (Hana Yori Kichou Na 'Excuse Me' Remix) by Hana Yori Kichou Na
So while remixing the biggest names in dance music can be extremely risky - Hana Yori Kichou Na proved he has the skills to back it up.

The 2 Bears
The 2 Bears are the duo of Joe Goddard & Raf Rundell. Both bring a wealth of musical talent to the table (Joe a founding member of Hot Chip, and Raf as Greco-Roman Soundsystem) and have a knack for making great house music.
While it may still be June, I think these fellas have made the biggest track of the summer! "Bear Hug" from their 3rd EP is everything I love about house music. Just try listening to this without smiling!

Has a great music video too:
The 2 Bears are also world class remixers. There take on Toddla T's "Take It Back" is one of those cross-over gems that reminds me of old school UK garage vibes:

Church, from their Curious Nature EP is another personal favorite. Such a simple, yet beautiful track - Their production skills really shine here. The layering of vocals are just epic, and really take the breaks to another level:
