TGIF

Very excited the week is almost over, and we are that much closer to Christmas. With 6 days off from work, I can't wait to spend a ton of time in the studio!

Time for another selection of random tracks that I've been enjoying this week. While the end of the year is always a great time to reflect on the best tunes of the year - I wanted to focus mostly on some fresh stuff.

Mark Knight is a legend in the dance music world.. whether from his DJ'ing, production or his record label (Toolroom Records) - I'm sure most people are familiar with him. Released two days ago on Defected Records, Mark has put his touch on possibly the biggest track of 2010, Tensnakes's Coma Cat. Staying very true to the original, this smooth remix adds a little freshness for those of us who have over played the original.

I was obsessed with Surkin's Fan Out when it first came out. A really fun tune to play in DJ sets, with some massive energy. A remix package was recently released - my favorite being another crazy mix by Light Year:

Rapping things up - a remix of MGMT's Siberian Breaks by the Ed Banger All Stars. A really beautiful track, which has been causing a lot of debate, in terms of who did what in the remix. See if you can spot the "Breakbot" parts!

Black Van

For those unfamiliar with Black Van, you are in for a real treat today. The duo of Kris Menace and KoweSix (one half of Moonbootica) have been creating quite a buzz with their deep disco vibes.

The project in their words: "The Black Van project takes their shared love of early electronica and disco to the next level by exploring the possibilities of analogue perfection and introducing classic songwriting from some of the best indie vocalists from USA and Europe." I've always been a big fan of Kris Menace, and actually didn’t even realize he was part of Black Van when I first heard their music…. I should have known better!

The first Black Van track I fell in love with was the “Yearning”. This slow burning gem is both chill and funky. Some seriously dreamy synth sounds on display here:

Pretty sure I first heard this next track on Radio 1... their killer remix of The Glass - Four Four Letter:

THE GLASS - FOUR FOUR LETTER (BLACK VAN REMIX) (Plant Music) by Black Van

Next up, here is their newest release "Moments of Excellence", which was released on Permanent Vacation (does this label ever miss with a release!!). Same formula, same great results:

BLACK VAN - MOMENTS OF EXCELLENCE (Permanent Vacation) by Black Van

And finally... Another great remix of Aeroplane's Without Lies. Is this better than the Breakbot remix?

I really hope Menace and KoweSix get the credit they deserve - as this really is a fantastic set of tracks.

Enjoy,

Thursday Heat

Seeing as winter is suddenly in full effect - thought it was only right to share some of the hottest tunes I've been grooving to the past week.

This week saw the release of YSLM by Burns and Fred Falke (What a combination!) which we have been waiting on since the moment we very first heard it. While to original mix is a complete monster - I wanted to highlight a couple of top notch remixes.

First up, a remix by two artists who have been consistently killing the filter vibe of late: Mix Chopin and Ghosts of Venice. This mix is very smooth with great percussion.. and doesn't overkill the original sample.

You Stopped Loving Me (Mix Chopin & Ghosts Of Venice Remix) by Ghosts Of Venice

Then we have an excellent mix by Treasure Fingers. Much more of the sample here... all pitched up and prime for the dancefloor - Love the breaks in this one.

YSLM (Treasure Fingers Remix)

Moving along... A-Trak's new remix of Robyn is pretty much exactly what you would expect from A-Trak, as he turns in his biggest club mix since Heads Will Roll. Be prepared to hear this one everywhere - along with most everything Robyn puts out.

Let's cap things off with a new tune from our favorite Italians Reset! Big disco vibes from the Italian's who slaughter basslines!

Sabrage by RESET!

Enjoy,
