More Summer Tunes

Got some great summer tunes for ya today. Whether you're cruising in a convertible, throwing a pool party, chillin at the beach, or flying through the city at night with all the windows down and all your bright colors on looking for a party, these three jams should sit real well.

First up is a remix of Ali Love's new single 'Smoke and Mirrors'. Smoke and Mirrors is Ali's best track yet, the original is absolutely amazing, but for legality's sake, I can't post it on here. So, I got this great remix by Bottin. Stays true to the synthy post 80's sound of the original and elevates it to new heights. Ali Love's tracks just keep getting better and better but no doubt THIS is quite the summer jam built for the dancefloor.

Ali Love - Smoke and Mirrors (Bottin Remix)

Second is from Ilija Rudman, who's tracks I've been keeping on rotation for a lil' while now for times when I'm getting loungier, sunnier and more balearic with the mix. This one however is a remix of After Midnight by L.S.B. and it's a post 80's synthy banger for sure. L.S.B. injected the original with a surge of energy and a steady dose of those keyboards that I love from that certain decade I'm also fond of.

Ilija Rudman - After Midnight (L.S.B. Remix)

Lastly we have a remix of Monarchy's Love Get Out of My Way by Tim Goldsworthy. This remix has fallen under the radar, especially when his former label mates The Holy Ghosts have remixed this very same track. But, this is in every way hands down the best remix of this track. Everything about this remix is perfect. However, it's all about the last couple minutes of this track. It just starts getting deeper and deeper and deeper and Tim's piano playing is just exceptional not too mention the drums. Enjoy.

New video: Breakbot's Baby I'm Yours

While the song has been around for awhile now... Breakbot released his video for Baby I'm Yours last week, and its a visual treat! I'm sure some of these visuals will make there way into a GMGN DJ set at some point.

A Big Release

Yesterday marked the release of Kamei's Remix Compilation, featuring remixes of tracks from his debut EP entitled 'Computer Malfunction'. Your very own GMGN made the compilation with our remix of 'Falling in Love'. But we have filtered through the EP and chosen the top 3 remixes off the Compilation and giving them to you guys.

First off is the GMGN Remix of Falling In Love. We turned this one inside out with lots of dancefloor energy, and used synths to really drive home the emotion. To me this track is about finally falling in love after years of going wrong. So therefore, this was a track that personally speaks to me a lot, and you can hear the personal touch throughout, the emotion present here is like a release, a free feeling, a huge weight off the shoulders, and the love here is the pure kind, the kind when you know its just right. Well at least, our interpertation of what that feels like. But for now I know nothing about it, until I meet you girl.

Kamei - Falling in Love (GMGN Remix)

Second is Pardon My French remix of Alive. Pure French Filter Touch going on here. Classic 909 style drums, filters, glitchers. They turned this track inside out and certified it as a dance floor killer. I am a sucker for those 909 styled drums. Watch for the disco styled synths too that come in after the 3 minute mark. Check out their other stuff on their myspace, it's well worth the jump.

Kamei - Alive (Pardon My French Remix)

Our third choice from this album is the Jumping Jack Flash remix of Planetary. Another straight up dancefloor bomb for DJ's and club goers. Just a sick job chopping up the sample and great energy. This one feels like a b-boy track, makes me wanna straight up go nuts on the floor in the middle of that dance circle. Take the jump over to his myspace:

There's some pure disco house styled dance floor heat for ya.

WTF

Ever head one of those messed up slippery slope style weeks? You could feel yourself sliding down this slippery slope. Surrounded in a situation you don't belong, pretending to belong and meanwhile a ton of other shit has just gone down the drain? Your forcing a smile at a company meeting with colleagues, watching monkeys in monkey suits play the game, you know you don't belong. The whole thing feels like a scene out of a never before released Radiohead video, and you just want to drug infuse the whole situation or look for some sort of escape. In my case I just wanted to sit in the corner of a techno club and just bang my head to some beats with a  substance of my choice. Just an escape for the night. Forget bs with family, girls, work and friends. But instead I was just trapped with a hangover in a company function. This track here perfectly sums up my frame of mind, and it happens to be from one of my favorite producers today, Tensnake. This is probably his edgiest release, but there's times where you just wanna be like what. the. fuck. and bang your head and just be left alone. This is that track for me.

Shots are on the house.

Free Mix! Gonna Have A House Party

A couple weeks back, we threw the first of many going away parties for our buddy Kyle – The man behind the amazing visuals at our live shows. Kyle is off to travel the country for the summer, and we don’t need an excuse to have a party!

Mike and I decided to DJ back-to-back sets.. Mike was bringing some tribal/African drum madness to kick things off… While I was going to bring my usual ADD style and see where it goes. I was maybe 4 tracks into my set when I felt a light shinning on me from behind – It was a police cruiser from the street below shinning his spot light on me…. Long story short, some angry police officers weren’t in the mood to party.

I had picked out some really fun tracks to play – Some old, some new… and some just plain silly…. So figured what the hell – Lets record a new mix for the blog.

A couple of Long Island ice teas later... Gonna Have A House Party Mix.

Random tracks that got me through my day

I'm about to dive into a marathon mastering session in the studio - so I quickly wanted to share some of the random tracks that got me through my Monday.

First up is a beauty of a remix from Breakbot. Breakbot has been getting some well deserved attention recently, turning in fanstastic production and remix work. (Played a great DJ set when I saw him earlier in the year too)

Air - So Light Is Her Football (Breakbot Remix)

Next up, is a really interesting record from Munk: La Musica. There are some solid remixes to go along with this release - but I'm quite enjoying the original. Look out for another Munk gem on my mix later this week.. a band worth keeping an eye on.

Munk - La Musica

And finally, how about a big room monster from Drop Thr Lime.. Remixed by Bart B More. The sax never fails!

Grum

Apologies for lack of posts recently - I will share some of the disco beasts we have been working on later in the week... In the meantime, I wanted to draw attention to an album I have been anticipating for awhile now - Grum's new album: Heartbeats.

While this is his debut album, Grum has been one of our favorite artists of the past year. Whether his originals, remixes, or remixes of his work - Lots of his tracks have made there way into our DJ sets.. and they always slay the dancefloor. Grum has been getting lots of air play on Radio 1 (Jaymo + Andy George have been big supporters) and its easy to see why.

To introduce you to his sound, lets kick things off with a Grum remix of The Friendly Fires - a fantastic British band who I am also a big fan of. I love this remix - He manages to keep the vibe of the original while bringing his synthy goodness to the table and some ridiculously epic breakdowns.

Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy (Grum Remix)

The album is just delightful - From start to finish. The perfect summer mixtape. You can really tell that Grum took his time making the album, with great care and attention to detail. He manages to sound current, while capturing the soul of disco/synth pop ... one could easily be fooled into thinking this was made in 1980. While the album has just been released - Some tracks have been floating around for awhile - which means there have been lots of yummy remixes!

SymbolOne's remix of Runaway is epic... and I dig his intro more than the album version, very dramatic. Very good.

Grum - Runaway (SymbolOne Remix)

Here is a much newer remix, one that I am absolutely loving right now... and is a mix of possibly the best track on the album. Dcup's take on Can't Shake This Feeling is spot on. Just try not to dance!

Grum - Can't Shake This Feeling (Dcup Remix)

And finally - Here is an original from the new album: Want U. This track really captures everything I love about Grum. That first bass line that comes in at 30 seconds, instantly puts a huge smile on my face. There are just so many amazing synth sounds here to drool over.

Grum - Want U

Go buy this album - You won't be disappointed.
