Grum

Apologies for lack of posts recently - I will share some of the disco beasts we have been working on later in the week... In the meantime, I wanted to draw attention to an album I have been anticipating for awhile now - Grum's new album: Heartbeats.

While this is his debut album, Grum has been one of our favorite artists of the past year. Whether his originals, remixes, or remixes of his work - Lots of his tracks have made there way into our DJ sets.. and they always slay the dancefloor. Grum has been getting lots of air play on Radio 1 (Jaymo + Andy George have been big supporters) and its easy to see why.

To introduce you to his sound, lets kick things off with a Grum remix of The Friendly Fires - a fantastic British band who I am also a big fan of. I love this remix - He manages to keep the vibe of the original while bringing his synthy goodness to the table and some ridiculously epic breakdowns.

The album is just delightful - From start to finish. The perfect summer mixtape. You can really tell that Grum took his time making the album, with great care and attention to detail. He manages to sound current, while capturing the soul of disco/synth pop ... one could easily be fooled into thinking this was made in 1980. While the album has just been released - Some tracks have been floating around for awhile - which means there have been lots of yummy remixes!

SymbolOne's remix of Runaway is epic... and I dig his intro more than the album version, very dramatic. Very good.

Here is a much newer remix, one that I am absolutely loving right now... and is a mix of possibly the best track on the album. Dcup's take on Can't Shake This Feeling is spot on. Just try not to dance!

And finally - Here is an original from the new album: Want U. This track really captures everything I love about Grum. That first bass line that comes in at 30 seconds, instantly puts a huge smile on my face. There are just so many amazing synth sounds here to drool over.

Go buy this album - You won't be disappointed.
